Empowering Genetic Discovery
Your Ancestry Belongs to You
We built MYDNATLAS because we believed everyone, not just scientists, should be able to truly understand their genetic heritage. No vague pie charts. No oversimplified regions. Just real science, transparent methods, and powerful tools at an accessible price.
Why We Built This
The problem with DNA tests today
Commercial ancestry tests give you broad labels like "25% British & Irish" or "18% Germanic Europe." But what does that actually mean? Which ancient migrations shaped you? They don't tell you.
If you wanted deeper answers, you were stuck with command-line tools designed for researchers, or you had to hire a consultant.
What MYDNATLAS does differently
We let you compare your DNA directly to 29,688 ancient samples from archaeological excavations, real people who lived thousands of years ago.
You see which populations you sit closest to, model your ancestry as combinations of ancient groups, and follow how that profile shifts era by era. Every figure comes with the distance behind it, so you can judge how well the model actually fits.
What We Stand For
Five principles that guide every decision we make.
Transparent
You see the distance metric, the fit error and the reference samples behind every result, not just the headline percentage. Where a view is illustrative rather than measured, we label it.
Accessible
Start with a simple 'who am I closest to?' and grow into custom ancestry models. From your first upload to advanced research, we meet you where you are.
Scientific
Our reference panel is drawn from published, peer-reviewed archaeogenetic studies, and the modelling is the same PCA-and-distance approach used across the field, with the same limits, which we spell out rather than hide.
Privacy-First
Your genetic data stays yours. We never sell, share, or use your coordinates for research. Raw DNA files are deleted once converted, with encrypted recovery backups purged within seven days. You can delete everything at any time.
Community-Driven
Our roadmap is shaped by user feedback, not investors. Features get built because you actually need them.
Where Our Data Comes From
Nearly every sample in MYDNATLAS comes from published, peer-reviewed scientific research. A small share are derived records (auto-filled entries, or averages computed from other samples) rather than individuals reported directly in a paper.
Sequenced archaeological remains, most published in Nature, Science, PNAS and other peer-reviewed journals; a small share are derived records rather than directly reported individuals
Contemporary reference populations covering every inhabited continent
PCA, admixture modelling, timelines, heatmaps, haplogroups, traits, ghost ancestry, AI, all on every paid plan
The panel spans 11 archaeological periods, from the Paleolithic to the present day, and grows as new archaeogenetic studies are published. Coverage is not even across the world: Western Eurasia has been sampled far more heavily than Africa, South Asia or Oceania, which is a property of the published literature rather than of this platform, and it is why results for some regions are necessarily coarser than for others.
