Get G25 Coordinates From Your Raw DNA

Your 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage or FamilyTreeDNA test already holds everything needed for G25 coordinates. This guide shows how to download the raw file from each provider, check it, convert it, and what to do with the 25 numbers you get back.

What G25 coordinates are

Global25, usually shortened to G25, places a person on a map of human genetic variation built from 25 principal components. Your coordinates are 25 numbers that say where your DNA sits on that map, so they can be compared with ancient and modern reference samples measured the same way.

The scaled format most tools expect is one line: a sample name, then 25 values separated by commas, written as decimals rather than in scientific notation. It looks like this:

My_Sample,0.0234,-0.0567,0.0123,-0.0345,0.0089,-0.0012,0.0456,-0.0234,0.0567,0.0123,0.0089,-0.0345,0.0234,-0.0567,0.0012,0.0345,-0.0089,0.0234,-0.0456,0.0123,-0.0067,0.0234,-0.0123,0.0089,-0.0045

Step 1: download your raw data

Every major testing company lets you download your raw data, but each hides it in a different menu and most send the file by email. These are the current steps for the four biggest providers.

23andMe

The download arrives as a .zip file.

  1. Sign in at 23andme.com, ideally on a computer.
  2. Open the menu under your name and choose Settings.
  3. Scroll to the 23andMe Data section and select View.
  4. Request your raw data download and confirm the notice.
  5. 23andMe emails you when the file is ready. This can take from a few hours to several days.
  6. Download the .zip file from that email and upload it to MYDNATLAS as it is. There is no need to unzip it.

AncestryDNA

The download arrives as a .zip file.

  1. Sign in at ancestry.com and open the DNA tab.
  2. Open your DNA results and choose Settings.
  3. Under Actions, select Download DNA Data, tick the acknowledgement and enter your password.
  4. Ancestry emails you a download link, usually within minutes. The link works once and expires after 7 days.
  5. Open the link and download the .zip file, named like dna-data-2026-10-17.zip.
  6. Upload the .zip file to MYDNATLAS as it is. There is no need to unzip it.

MyHeritage

The download arrives as a .zip or .csv file.

  1. Sign in at myheritage.com on a computer or an Android device.
  2. Open the DNA menu and choose Manage DNA kits.
  3. Select the three dots beside your kit, then Download, and confirm the notice.
  4. MyHeritage emails you a link. Open it within 24 hours, enter your password and download the file.
  5. Only the kit manager can download, and only for a kit tested by MyHeritage, not one uploaded from another company.
  6. Upload the downloaded file to MYDNATLAS as it is.

FamilyTreeDNA

The download arrives as a .csv.gz file.

  1. Sign in at familytreedna.com.
  2. In the Autosomal DNA (Family Finder) section, select See More, then Data Download. The same page is under Results and Tools, Autosomal DNA, Download Raw Data.
  3. Download Build 37 Raw Data Concatenated. It saves as a .csv.gz file.
  4. Upload the .csv.gz file to MYDNATLAS as it is. We unpack it in your browser before it is uploaded.

Tested somewhere else? Files from Living DNA, Nebula Genomics, CircleDNA and Whole genome (VCF) work the same way.

Step 2: check the file

  • The upload accepts .txt, .csv, .zip or .gz, up to 100 MB.
  • Keep the file exactly as downloaded. Unzipping, renaming the extension or opening and re-saving it in a spreadsheet can damage the data.
  • The file must contain autosomal results. A Y-DNA or mitochondrial report on its own cannot be converted.
  • On iPhone or iPad, downloads are saved in the Files app under Downloads. When the upload asks for a file, choose Browse to find it there.

Step 3: convert it to G25

The conversion reads the SNPs in your file and projects them onto the G25 components, producing the same scaled values used by the community reference sheets. With MYDNATLAS you have two ways to do it:

  • Coordinates only. A one-time $15 conversion with no subscription. Upload the file, and your coordinates are emailed to you, usually within minutes, ready to copy and paste.
  • Coordinates and the analysis tools. The Atlas plan ($29 a year) includes one raw DNA conversion a year and compares your result with 29,688 ancient samples and 5,453 modern references.

Step 4: put the coordinates to work

Once you have the line of 25 numbers, the usual next steps are:

Questions

Do I need to unzip my raw DNA file first?

No. Upload the file exactly as the provider gave it to you. A .zip file is read as it is, and a FamilyTreeDNA .csv.gz file is unpacked in your browser before it is uploaded.

Which raw DNA files can be converted to G25 coordinates?

Autosomal raw data files from 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, Living DNA, CircleDNA, Nebula and other providers, plus whole genome VCF files. The upload accepts .txt, .csv, .zip or .gz, up to 100 MB. A file that holds only Y-DNA or mitochondrial results has no autosomal data and cannot be converted.

How long does the conversion take?

Most conversions finish within minutes of payment, and every conversion is guaranteed within 24 hours. The coordinates are emailed to you as soon as they are ready.

Can I use my coordinates in Vahaduo and other G25 tools?

Yes. The coordinates are standard scaled G25 values in the usual Davidski format: your sample name followed by 25 comma separated numbers. You can paste that line straight into Vahaduo, G25Studio or any other tool that reads scaled G25.

What happens to my raw DNA file?

Your data is encrypted, never shared, and deleted on request. You can delete your account and every file and result it holds at any time.
