Geographic Genetic Visualization

DNA Proximity Heatmap

Explore your genetic connections on an interactive world map with province-level granularity. See exactly where populations matching your DNA are located, from close relatives to distant cousins, using an intuitive heat gradient system.

Map Your Global Genetic Connections

See your genetic relationships geographically projected onto a world map with province-level resolution. The heatmap shows genetic distance across all 5,453 modern references and 29,688 ancient samples, with filtering by genetic similarity threshold.

FAQ

What does the heatmap measure?

Each area is coloured by the genetic distance between your G25 coordinates and the reference populations sampled there. It shows where people genetically similar to you were sampled, which is not the same thing as where your own ancestors lived.

Is this a G25 map?

Yes. The colours are G25 distances: the map plots how far your coordinates are from each sampled population, so it works as a DNA similarity map for anyone with G25 coordinates.

What if my region isn't covered?

Coverage follows published genomes, so it is densest in Europe, West Asia and South Asia. Areas with no sampled population may appear neutral or take interpolated values from nearby populations.

Can I see individual populations?

Yes. Zoom into a region or open an area to see the populations behind its colour, with their genetic distances.

Can I compare with ancient samples?

Yes. Switch between the modern references and the 29,688 ancient samples, filter the ancient samples by archaeological period, and widen or narrow the distance threshold.

Is the heatmap free?

No. The heatmap is part of every paid plan, and each plan includes a raw DNA conversion to G25. The Population Encyclopedia is free to browse with a free account; analysing your own DNA needs a paid plan.

Is this data private?

All heatmap data is generated from your DNA and shown only to you. No data is shared unless you explicitly choose to share your results.
